PowrCastPowrCast is a twenty-year simulation of a generic, but very typical US electric power system using the well known and accepted PowrSym simulation software. The purpose of PowrCast is to allow the comparison of various technologies, strategies, and regulatory policies over a twenty year horizon in a common, consistent and unbiased simulation framework. PowrCast includes not only the direct costs of producing electricity but also other societal impacts such as: Loss, gain, shifting of job opportunities. When looking out twenty years, the uncertainty about input data (for example natural gas prices) grows with each year. Societal impacts (such as emissions) are subject to even greater uncertainty. PowrCast will deal with these uncertainties by creating probability curves of results versus input data ranges rather than single mid-range values. This means that users of the results can interpret the results based upon their expectation of data outcomes. PowrCast is a pure engineering model and thus is indifferent to the various viewpoints, PowrCast just cranks through the simulation and produces results based upon the given data ranges. The PowrCast team has produced a baseline scenario that assumes a continuation of 'business as usual" for our generic utility. We will work with the proponents and experts in various technologies, societal impacts, and regulatory strategies to evaluate alternatives looking forward. Contact us with your interests.
